After finishing in 2nd place at the last CalSpeedway Tri-C Karters event, Kyle Wright was determined to equal or better his performance at the race held on August 15th, 2009 and he did just that! After finishing the qualifying session in 2nd place, Kyle was in a strong position for the first heat of the day, and was able to hold his position and finish just behind the leader. With everything in good working order and keeping cool and comfortable with his K1 Race Gear Evo X karting suit, Kyle was able to best his previous performances and finish on top of the podium in 1st place in the final race of the day, setting the fastest lap of the event in the process! At K1 Race Gear, we have continuously been impressed with Kyle's skills behind the wheel of a kart, and these results are a vindication for the team! We congratulate Kyle on his win and wish him continued success throughout the race season and the future.

K1 Race Gear Driver Kyle Wright Finishes 2nd at California Speedway!

We are pleased to announce that K1 Race Gear-sponsored driver Kyle Wright finished in 2nd place at the recent Tri-C Karters / Los Angeles Kart Club (LAKC) California Speedway event in Fontana after showing considerable improvement throughout the day! In qualifying, Kyle was only able to manage a 6th place finish; respectable but not what he was looking for! In the pre-main race however, he was able to work his way up the pack and finished just off of the podium in the 4th position. Considering the size of the event and the number of participants from both clubs, 4th was a quite healthy finish! In the final race however, Kyle really let loose and made his way all the way up to 2nd place, setting the fast lap of the race in the process! Needless to say, we couldn’t be happier for Kyle and wish him the best of luck with the rest of the season. Currently sitting in 2nd place overall for the season, Kyle looks to have a good chance of taking home a championship!

On the strength of an amazing year filled with national championships, regional titles and races wins, all wrapped in a professional presentation, Team Top Kart USA is this year’s EKN Team of the Year.

In the Stars of Karting program, the Top Kart chassis was among the lead group each weekend. Four drivers finished the year inside the top-10 of the championship standings. Chris Scribner led the way by earning the Western Division championship, finishing third overall thanks to a National Finals win. Kyle Wiegand, the number one TaG pilot according to the EKN Driver Rankings, was fourth overall with a string of podium finishes, while Chris Wehrheim ended the year fifth with two wins to his total. He was also nominated for EKN Rising Star award.

The Junior squad was just a tough, adding more wins and championships by way of Brendan Phinny, Taylor Miinch, Tyler Thomas, and others. In addition to the title, Phinny made his Senior debut at the end of the year at the SKUSA SuperNationals XII in the S3 category where he beat out a number of top talents, including NASCAR’s Jamie McMurray.

Miinch traveled all over the country, including parts of the world. It was a full 12 months of racing in 2008 for Miinch, including Florida Winter Tour, IKF Region 7, Gatorz Karting Cup, the IKF Grand Nationals, Rotax Grand Nationals, and the Stars of Karting. The Californian earned his first Stars victory at the Shawano, WI event, the same location at which he would finish second at the Rotax event to earn a spot on the Mazda America’s Team to the Rotax Grand Finals in La Conca, Italy. Miinch’s big weekend came at the IKF Grand Nationals at the Santa Maria Kart Track where Miinch would earn three Screaming Eagles as the top qualifier, three prestigious Duffys for his victories and an extra podium spot when he was honored as the Lake Speed Achievement of Excellence Award.

Thomas made the transition from the Cadet category to the Junior ranks in 2008 as was fast from the start. Thomas was among the front runners each weekend on the Stars of Karting program along with the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series. Thomas ended the year with a runner-up finish at the SKUSA SuperNationals XII in the competitive TaG Junior division.

A number of other drivers put Top Kart on top of the podium across the country at the regional and club levels to help them earn the Team of the Year honor. EKN would like to congratulate all the members – the drivers and the crews - of Team Top Kart USA for a solid effort in the 2008 season.

Top Kart, a long time leader in the karting industry continues to improve on the most successful karts in the North American market, the Top Kart Flash, and has developed an all new Top Kart Speedy for the CIK-FIA 2009-2014 homologations. The entire line utilizes Top Kart’s new self-adjusting brake system, 25mm spindles (for increased front grip), new multi positional camber/castor eccentrics, and new body work with decal kit. Both the Flash and Speedy 100cc models can be ordered with the new hand operated front brakes. Top Kart is also officially launching the Top Kart Flash 102, which comes in 30mm and 28mm versions. All karts come complete with seat, decal kit, and Top Kart Magnesium wheels.

The chassis design has not been changed from the 2008 design, which features 31mm rails and a 32mm front axle. Improvements include the new brake system, 25mm spindles, and eccentrics.

Top Kart Speedy: New for 2009 is the Speedy, which has a very similar frame design to the Flash but with 32mm rails throughout the chassis. The kart is particularly effective on soft tires and high power karts such as TaG, KF, and KZ categories.
